Chronic signs of appendicitis

An appendectomy is generally indicated for patients with a history of persistent abdominal pain, fever, and clinical signs of localized or diffuse peritonitis, especially if leukocytosis is present. If you experience the signs of appendicitis, you need to contact the emergency department of a hospital or get in touch with your doctor immediately. Unlike acute appendicitis, chronic appendicitis doesn’t necessarily mean that you will have to undergo surgery.
The major reason for appendiceal perforation is delay in diagnosis and treatment. In general, the longer the delay between diagnosis and surgery, the more likely is perforation. Appendicitis is the most common acute surgical emergency of the abdomen. Appendicitis usually happens after an infection in the digestive tract, or when the tube connecting the large intestine and appendix is blocked by trapped feces or food.
